How the Question, “Am I in Hell?” Made Me Realize God Must be Real
Hell is a place that feels like God has forsaken it
Hell is a place where it feels like suffering is inescapable.
Hell is a place where there is no common sense, no knowledge about our reason for being.
Hell is stumbling along, unaware, dodging dangers in a looping dream.
We don’t belong in Hell. We don’t belong here. We yearn for a home we cannot name.
Who or what does not belong in Hell?
God.
Within, we can find our answers.
Our common sense, our knowledge about our reasons for being here.
Open your heart, it’s the experience you’ve had here that you would grieve mightily if it was gone forever.
We came from eternity and we are going to eternity. It's here right now, if you stop and listen.
Time and phenomena move through you, not the other way around.
You are the eternal presence that is here now. If you sense God in an inanimate thing, it is you who put it there.
You are God. Powering a body with no conscious thought.
And you are one part of a larger God. A larger eternity that has experienced even more than you.
Your animal and plant friends are God. In a more confined avatar, with a more limited capacity to reason and suffer.
They are here with us and accrue almost no karma. They cannot willfully hurt another in a way that would demand another life to balance actions in this one.
With our greater capacity, we have a greater responsibility.
We ‘human’ beings are in Hell to balance something out. We were hurt, we must understand. We must know - from all angles - why.
We get lost in the dream of balancing - victim, perpetrator, victor.
Hell’s minions set up the rules and the environment.
Hell gave us material trappings of comfort and amusement.
We forgot that Hell’s pollution can follow us if we let it.
We forgot that, except for other beings, every single thing in Hell is absent of intrinsic good, of any meaning, of any part of God.
When you reach the lifetime where things feel like Hell, know that it’s time to wake up. The only thing that matters are the other beings, in various stages of God amnesia, who are here with you on this wild ride. They, being Gods like you, will someday be able to look into the deepest part of your essence and see what is truly there. Do right by them, as they may indeed judge you as needing more time in Hell. And come back if you want, Hell’s kitchen will will keep churning out plotlines, twists and turns, villains and heroes for eternity. Or as long as people want to play in the grand game of good and evil.
